Malwarebytes specialists in cyber-security have detected malicious software of a new type. The virus program infects Mac computers manufactured by Apple and uses their power to mine Monero cryptocurrency. “Virus software includes three main components: dropper, the task thereof is to install the program on the infected computer, the code to run the application and the actual miner itself. After infection of the computer, the virus captures a significant part of its capacity and uses it to mine cryptocurrency,” says Thomas Reid, Head of Mobile Devices and Mac Department.
The installation of the miner is carried out by the program “launcher” – Golang language was used to create it. Experts note that it is rather strange to create a fairly simple program code in such a language. According to experts, this may indicate that the creator of the virus is not closely acquainted with Mac. Despite the problem, in fact, infection with this virus does not pose a particular threat to users, and removing a malicious application from the computer is extremely simple. The first information about this virus began to spread around Apple users in the forums.
