In 2015, the Stripe payment service became a kind of pioneer when the developers integrated the Bitcoin transaction system. However, the company has recently stated on its official Twitter account that Stripe management decided to terminate the option of making transactions through the BTC blockchain, as the platform did not live up to expectations.
We would like to remind you that Stripe is a payment service. The company’s present value is estimated at about 9 billion US dollars. Bitcoin was a kind of guideline for organizing a decentralized system of fast transfers without bank charges.
The company’s decision is temporary. First, the commission fee for Bitcoin transactions has fallen sharply and is currently about $1. Secondly, there are already nodes in the Bitcoin network that work with the Lightning network, and Stripe noted that they reserve the possibility of resuming transaction support on the BTC network. Also, the company’s management noted the potential of such cryptocurrencies as Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, OmiseGO and Stellar. Comparing to the mentioned cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is perceived more as an asset, noted in Stripe.
